Fire Station Visit


On Monday 16th October 2006 we visited Oldbury Fire Station. The trip was organised by Tim Gardiner, who is a fireman, and whose son is one of our Sixers.

We had arranged with the parents to take them to the fire station and we would meet them there. The leaders plus a few cubs whose parents were unable to take them went by the group mini bus.

It was a great evening and the cubs were really good and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We were split into two groups and the firemen told us about the engine, how much water the tanks on the engine held how many ladders they had on board etc. One of the firemen dressed up in the gear they use when they go into burning houses. The cubs asked some very sensible questions.

They then went outside and the firemen set up the hoses and they all had a go at trying to hold on to them while aiming the jets over the ground trying to hit the fire station.

For three cubs it was a very special night as they were invested into cubs in front of the fire engines and were given their neckers by the two firemen who had done such a marvellous job of explaining everything to them.

The leaders would like to thank the watch on that night for such a great evening. (I can not remember which watch it was but when I find out I will update this report).
