Blakedown Cub Scouts Winter Hike

Monday 5th Febriary 2007

A really cold night – probably one of the coldest this winter and guess what we arranged to take our cubs for a night hike to Hurcott Woods.

The cars were icy when the leaders left the hut to go and meet the parents and cubs at the car park in Hurcott village.
 
Everyone was wrapped up warm and we set of with 21 cubs, no torches, just the stars and Akela to show us the way. It was quite dark but at least it was not as cold as we thought it was going to be.

We finally made it to the Giants table and chairs, after stopping quite a few times to listen for animal sounds. We rested for a minute or two while Akela told a story and Raksha did Cecil.

Then it was off again into the woods but after a few minutes of it being very dark and the ground being very spongy we decided that was not a good idea so decided to go down to the car park another way. We got to the car park on time and all the parents were waiting to take them home.
